We've been anticipating today's Apple Special Event since last week, with rumours flying fast and furiously about a possible announcement of a video iPod. Steve Jobs and Co. did not disappoint, with the announcement of the new iPod with video capabilities, including a port to send video out to a TV, to begin shipping next week. The device will be thinner than the old models and sport a 2.5-inch, 320 x 240 resolution display, and will come in two versions: 20GB for $299 or 60GB for $399. Apple also introduced the new iTunes 6 software, featuring video playback and facilitating video downloads from the iTunes Music Store. The store is going to be offering music video downloads at $1.99 apiece, as well as TV shows at the same price -- first to debut will be Desperate Housewives, along with four other ABC shows. It's been a long time in coming, and there are still no full-length features lined up, but this is one serious entry into the portable video arena from Apple today.
