Weblogs, Inc. is a blog company run by bloggers for bloggers; as such we're committed to keeping blogging authentic and honest. We want our readers to trust our blogs, so we've committed to the following:

  • There is a clear separation between advertising and editorial on all WIN blogs. Our bloggers are not involved in the advertising process. In fact, our bloggers find out who's advertising on our blogs at the same time as the audience!
  • Bloggers do not receive free products or services from the companies they write about.
  • Bloggers do accept review units (i.e., a new cell phone at Engadget, a video game at Joystiq, or a week-long car loan at Autoblog); however, when they're finished reviewing products, they return these items to the manufacturers. If the manufacturers do not take the items back, we give them to our readers. This is the same editorial policy as the New York Times or Wall Street Journal.
  • Bloggers do not accept "junkets" from vendors. Junkets are free trips that PR firms and the companies they represent provide to journalists in the hopes of getting favorable reviews for their products. Our bloggers routinely get offers of first class tickets and four-star hotels at amazing destinations we NEVER accept them! If we go to an industry event you can be sure that we've picked up the cost of the tickets and that we suffered in coach in order to maintain our integrity.
  • If we get something wrong, we correct the error immediately.
  • Bloggers are committed to being up front and honest. Their opinions are their own, and if you don't agree with them, feel free to post a comment!

Blogs represent a unique way to reach early adopters who create the word of mouth around your products and services. Our industry leading blogs like Engadget, Autoblog, and Joystiq reach millions of passionate readers a month. Netscape backstage on the "Heroes" set

Netscape anchor Ryan Budke found himself on the set of NBC's hit Heroes (it probably wasn't as accidental as that), with a video camera and complete access to actors and producers and shenanigans and stuff. Here's the post. And check out some video--

Wil Wheaton reviews Star Trek episodes!

OMG, Wil Wheaton posted the first of a projected series of Star Trek: The Next Generation reviews, at TV Squad. Will starred in ST:TNG as Ensign Wesley Crusher, and I apologize to Trekkies for the obviousness of pointing that out. As a Trekkie (Trekker? whatever) myself, I find it insanely cool to read Wil commenting on his own own legendary TV show and iconic character. He recaps the plot with amusing cynicism, rips a writer for giving him bad lines, and offers memories from behind the scenes. It's what I and countless others have always wanted: a virtual version of watching the episode on DVD at Wil's house.

Wil posted this first review on the 40th anniversary of the first Star Trek broadcast (the Kirk-Spock show, not the Picard-Data show that Wil was in), and will be continuing the series on an approximately bi-weekly basis.

Joystiq at E3!

E3, the Electronic Entertainment Expo, is on. And our flagship gaming blog Joystiq is there in a big way. Live blogging -- point by point, event by event, keynote by keynote, product announcement by product announcement. Excitement, photos, rumors, revelations. Check in often.

Engadget: weird half-keyboard monster mouse

I'm filing this under "Why didn't I think of that?" Actually, this is the sort of product that I love in theory, but will never on this green earth actually use. It's a split keyboard (really split, as in downright schizophrenic) whose right half functions as an oversized, lumbering mouse. It looks like two orphaned pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. The concept is generating alot of opinion; check out the comments.

Vlad Cole ruminates massively on NPR

Vlad Cole, brilliant lead blogger of Joystiq, our flagship game blog, was interviewed on National Public Radio's Marketplace this morning. It's about Microsoft's acquisition of Massive, a game advertising company. Weren't listening? Why not? Well, no matter -- you can listen now. You must listen now. You will listen, and you will learn. Sorry, I was channeling an animated 18th-century warrior for a sec. Anyway, here is the directlink to the audio file: Listen here.

Introducing The Wireless Report Podcast

Mike Sciannamea and Brian White, the dynamic duo (really, they are) who produce The Wireless Report, have added a new feature to the blog: The Wireless Report Podcast. The inaugural edition is a feast for anyone fascinated by the technology and politics of wireless communication. The first 'cast covers wireless 411, in-flight wifi, mobile television, and RFID privacy. Count on continuing audio coverage of municipal wifi initiatives, which the blog covers voraciously. Go here for the podcast entry page, or hit the MP3 file directly with this link.

Look who's at the most prestigious executive conference in the world

Donald Trump? Alan Greenspan? Even better -- Andrea Lake. C'mon, you know; the Apprentice contestant who was eliminated from the show last night. Free of the tedious exercise in gamesmanship, Andrea is attending the Milken Global Conference, and our on-the-scene blogging team sat down for a video interview. Andrea is interested in business (obviously) and philanthropy, and discusses her near-term plans now that she's no longer knocking on the Donald's door.

An Apple a day ...

It would be a heinous exaggeration to say that Apple releases a new product every day. If it did, I'm not sure it would keep the doctor away so much as infect everyone with some sort of deadly hype virus. Anyway, the royal Jobness did unleash a new and lovely 17-inch MacBook, and we've got the sparkling toy doubly covered. Check out discussions at The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW), and from Engadget.

Blogging the Milken Global Conference

We haven't touched down on the annual Milken Institute Global Conference since 2004, and Weblogs, Inc. is back to cover the 2006 event full throttle. "The Milken" is a conference, think session, and networking opportunity for senior executives around the world. It provides a fascinating and stimulating environment where the leaders and great thinkers of the day gather to share insights, debate, and meet each other. Science, economics, business, and the future stay on center stage this week, Monday through Wednesday. Go here to pick up our team's trail.

Shark vs. seal: Amazing video

Willy Volk, the lead blogger of our Divester site, found an astonishing video of a great white shark propelling itself completely out of the water in a vertical attack on a seal. This is not a bloody video, but it demonstrates the ferocity of life -- and at the same time the beauty with which nature's implacable laws can be expressed -- as explicitly as any video clip you're likely to see anywhere.

We launch Ohio

Don't worry, we're not causing a secession. Ohio will remain in the Union. But perhaps we are reinventing the state, and we are certainly putting a fun, personal, colorful spin on everything Ohio. It's our newest site: BloggingOhio. Five diverse bloggers put their spins on Ohio life and Ohio news. From state fairs to campus life; from the beauty of Ohio's many parks to video drives along Cleveland streets; from the weather to the food -- this is a living, breathing Ohio. Think you know all about this state? Think again.

PS3fanboy joins the Joystiq flock

This makes six, but who's counting? Six game-specific satellite blogs surrounding the flagship Joystiq, that is. The latest, birthed last night, is dedicated to the PlayStation 3 console, and features gonzo bloggers Dan Choi and Adams Briscoe. So now our game-blog platform looks like this:

Joystiq (the mothership)

Xbox360fanboy

Cinematical interviews Jason Reitman

Kim Voynar of Cinematical scored an hour of sit-down time with Jason Reitman, director of Thank You for Smoking. The tangled history of the movie's screenplay is revealed, and Jason (I'm calling him Jason as if I interviewed him) discusses the frustrations he experienced obtaining the book rights, and the thrill of directing Robert Duvall.

On another Cinematical note, Karina Longworth logs her one-month-anniversary installment of her weekly "Laws and Sausages" column. To celebrate, Karina answers her critics.

With Oscars in the can, attention turns to Cannes

More than two months away, starting May 17, the renowned Cannes Film Festival is already attracting buzz. According to Martha Fischer at Cinematical, The Da Vinci Code will open the festival out of competition. Among the contest films, A French entry titled Paris, je t'aime will kick things off on the 18th. The film feature 20 vignettes created by 20 directors, acted by a boatload of stars. Pick up on Cinematical's ongoing Cannes coverage here.

Listing George Clooney's humiliations

George Clooney resides atop the world of entertainment. He received multiple Oscar nominations for last year's film work. He won the first award (Best Supporting Actor) in this year's award ceremony. As an actor and producer, Clooney can do pretty much whatever he wants. So the time is right to puncture his bubble, and Joel Keller of TV Squad does so by listing the five pre-stardom TV roles that George Clooney would like to erase from his bio. Critique the list or add to it here.
