We'll be profiling some of our talented bloggers here at WIN over the next few weeks, and we're going to kick off the interview series with Blogging Baby's inimitable Jay Allen.
When did you start blogging and how did you get into it?
I started about three years ago with a now-defunct Pagan spirituality blog. I had heard about blogging for a while, but was more focused on trying to break into traditional publishing. Once I tried it, however, I was hooked. About a year into that blog, I began writing my first book in earnest, and decided to shift my activity over to The Zero Boss. I've been blogging there about parenting, pop culture, religion and human rights issues for nearly two years now. ...

Today we continue our interview with a blogger series with the
driving force behind Joystiq, Vlad Cole. When did you first get
into blogging? I first got into blogging as a college student in 1995 when I created a .plan file
on my university's Unix system and updated it several times a day. I was very annoying about promoting this endeavor,
encouraging everyone I came into contact with to "finger me, just do it, just finger me, you'll see." The
approach lacked subtlety, but I could tell people were reading the .plan because I wrote a shell script to monitor
system processes and catch users in the process of fingering me. Ahh, the good old days. ...

Our blogger interview series continues today with one of the blogging titans of WIN, Brad Hill, currently piloting a dizzying array of our blogs including Digital Music, The Unofficial Google Weblog, The Unofficial Yahoo Weblog, Search Engine Marketing (still reading?), P2P and likely a few clandestine sites he's not telling us about. Without further ado...
What got you into blogging?
When I was a child, my grandmother used to stroke my hair and say, "This
little boy could be president someday." Grandpa would retort, "Like
hell. He'll be a blogger, or he'll be nothing." It's a damn shame
Grandma was wrong, because if I were in office I would have fixed the
American Idol voting system by now. But I digress. My first blog was a
personal rumination on things, undistinguished and unread. Then I set up
a topical blog to support a book I had written about digital music.
That's where things stood for me when Weblogs, Inc. appeared on the scene.

Continuing the spotlight on our talented (multi-talented!) bloggers here at Weblogs, Inc., today's interview profiles Cinematical dynamo Karina Longworth.
What excites you about blogging?
I like being able to publish instantly, before I've
had the chance to second guess; I like the idea of
causing a little bit of trouble, of starting fights; I
like the idea of being a bit of a brat.
On my second glass of wine I have a tendency to start
contextualizing what I do for a living within the
context of punk rock; people used to just let that
slide by, but now that blogging has become so huge,
they usually call me on it. I still believe that
blogging can, should and at its best, does function as
the gnat on the shoulder of mainstream media. Post
AOL, of course, that gets a little muddled for us; but
I think I'm actually *more* excited about the idea of
practicing some kind of quiet subversion within the
corporate context. I liken it to strolling into Ann
Taylor with the Nation of Ulysses ...

We continue our Interview with a Blogger series with multiple Microsoft uber-blogger Marc Orchant.
How has it been at WIN?
It's been a wild ride. In the early days of WIN, we had a lot fewer blogs and the growth has been astonishing to watch. When I started with WIN, getting paid for blogging was a promise, not a reality. I had the sense, right out of the gate, that I was really fortunate to get in on the ground floor of a true net phenomenon and, of course, that is exactly what it's turned out to be. I've made some really special friendships with people that, up until the recent WINStock meeting in New York, I had never met in person - just built a solid virtual friendship with via e-mail and IM. Finally having an opportunity to meet many of these folks has only reinforced what I knew in my gut all along - that Weblogs, Inc. is a force to be reckoned with and a truly unique assemblage of talent, creativity, and unlimited energy. I'm excited about the future and feel incredibly fortunate to be a ...

In today's blogger interview we find out what keeps Deidre Woollard blogging at breakneck pace on Luxist and Slashfood:
How has it been working at WIN?
It's a lot of fun. There is so much enthusiasm for various subjects
and blogging in general. I am an information junkie and I love that we
cover so many different subjects so well. The pace is also exciting. I
used to work on magazines where everything had to be done months in
advance. At WIN, change can happen so quickly. Blogging is such a
flexible medium that we can work with our audience and each other to
constantly create a better and more entertaining product. It's a bit
like cooking, you can tinker and test until you get it right. With so
many jobs you have to fit yourself inside a mold, WIN is the opposite,
you get to create your work and you are responsible for yourself. I
think that is one of the reasons that WIN bloggers are such a creative
group is that this kind of paradigm welcomes those who are interested
in working on ...

We continue our interview with a blogger series today with Engadget Managing editor and Master of Snark, Ryan Block.
What's the best part about what you do?
Well, there's a certain buzz you can imagine getting from getting a gadget no one else has, or finding out about something before no one else knows and sharing that with others, or playing with toys long before they're released. But the work part doesn't occur in a vacuum -- there's this enormous amount of enthusiasm and energy that drives everything, that makes the whole system possible. I mean, the crew at Weblogs have this unbelievably intense fervor for what they're doing, it's what drives the machine. And I think I'm secretly most enamored with the cast of characters, it's such a menagerie of colorful personalities -- I highly recommend you sneak into a WIN dinner or meetup sometime. Trust me on this one.

We continue our Interview with a Blogger series today with Cinematical's Kim Voynar:
How has it been working at WIN?
Are you kidding me? I get to watch movies, mostly indie and foreign flicks, and write what I think about them. I'm getting paid to do what I love doing more than anything in the world. What's not to like? Perhaps more importantly, writing for WIN has allowed me to transition back into working after taking six years (mostly) off to be a stay-at-home-mom. No one really tells women how hard that is. All the parenting mags say, "Take time off to enjoy your baby!", and it's true - early childhood is a wonderful time, it goes by all too fast, and I don't regret taking that time to just slow down and enjoy being a mom. But the truth is, our work culture doesn't really accomodate well moms OR dads taking that time to be with our kids in their babyhood. When I quit to stay home, I was working in the tech field as a project manager and writer/editor. Getting back into that game at the ...

Today's blogger interview features TUAW phenom (as well as regular contributor to TVSquad and Cinematical), C.K. Sample, III.
What do you think makes blogging unique?
Quaerimur Ergo Sum. "I'm searchable, therefore I am." Recently, Jeff
Jarvis, of Buzzmachine fame, while
discussing the commodification of Google, mentioned that if you
weren't searchable these days, you didn't exist (I'm paraphrasing
here), and I think that's the beauty of blogging. It's a new
grassroots publication system that makes you searchable. If you do a
Google search for C.K. you will see a link to my profile from TV
Squad as the 9th result. On the second page, you will see a link to
my TUAW profile. On the third page, you will see my personal blog,
Sample the Web. If you are my long lost
friend Alberto who lives in Italy and whom I met in Germany and you
think, "Hey, I wonder how C.K. is doing?" then you will find me (he
did). That's valuable on a personal level. If you're an editor
considering ...

Massive, a game advertising company. Weren't listening? Why not? Well, no matter -- you can listen now. You must listen
now. You will listen, and you will learn. Sorry, I was channeling an animated 18th-century warrior for a sec. Anyway,
