Tiger Tussle: Star Jones Says Barbara Walters Can Relate To Woods

Unless you've been under a rock or in a coma, you know that Tiger Woods is embroiled in one of the messiest personal scandals to make news in a long time! Over the last several weeks, multiple mistresses have disclosed that the acclaimed athlete had numerous extramarital affairs with them.

Now former 'View' co-host Star Jones is making headlines of her own for suggesting her former boss, media maven Barbara Walters land the troubled golfer's first interview.

Jones was a guest host on Friday's episode of the news magazine series 'The Insider' and the question was asked whether Woods should offer his first interview to Walters or his pal, Oprah Winfrey.

"My former boss might be a good choice," Jones recommended. "She wrote an entire book where she detailed her own affair and got paid a lot of money. She would be a very good choice. That would be like the pot calling the kettle black. I'm not sure she would be sympathetic, but she can't be as judgmental."

Ugly Betty star was almost Peter Petrelli on Heroes

I love hearing stories about how certain stars auditioned for certain roles and didn't get them. What would the show/movie have been like if they were cast in it instead of the person who eventually got the role? For example, did you know that Danny DeVito was almost cast as Serena on Gossip Girl?

Here's another tidbit: Ugly Betty star Eric Mabius auditioned for the role of Peter Petrelli on Heroes. It's not really clear whether he didn't get the role because Milo Ventimiglia got it or if producers of Ugly Betty grabbed him for the role of Daniel Meade before Heroes producers could sign him up. Whatever happened, he's now playing the head of Mode magazine while Ventimiglia is absorbing people's superpowers.

The interview above is rather interesting. Mabius has moved back to Massachusetts with his family (he met his wife here while in college and wants to raise his kids here). He says he doesn't have a plan for his future, though he might have to get one. I have a feeling this might be the last season for Ugly Betty.

Flood of Red Want to Play America

"We started the band to tour the world and make our way out of the small town we live in so it will take a lot to discourage us from our lives on the road," Flood of Red drummer Graham Griffith admits to Noisecreep. "The state of the economy obviously isn't great at the moment, and one of the things which will be taking a hit is the arts. But to us it just means we are going to try harder at making our show worth coming to and worth people spending their hard-earned money on."

If you think the six guys in Glasgow, Scotland-based Flood of Red are undaunted by a little hard work, you'd be correct. It seems no matter how high the odds are stacked against them, the determined group of young musicians are ready to hit the road -- and get away from home any way they can. The band's current major goal? To play America.

"We've not toured in the U.S.A. yet, but we would love to. It's a dream of ours. Hopefully we will make our way back across the pond in 2010 and play some shows," Griffith says.

DJShadow02 insisted that "Event Horizon" tops "Jurassic Park" in the scary movies-starring-Sam Neill department, calling it, " ... highly underrated and waaaaaay bloody/evil."

PuterPrsn made us worry for his girlfriend by saying, "'Alien' - the original - I put bruises on my date's arm grabbing hold several times."

MisanthropeGirl reminded us why '80s VHS horror will always keep us up past our bedtime: "One of the 'Sleepaway Camp' sequels (III) haunts me to this day. A girl got killed by having her head flushed in a toilet, which was equal parts scary and gross."

But it was Huck who made us flash back to a cinematic tale far more terrifying than "Paranormal Activity" when he wrote, "'Spice World.' Scariest movie ever."

Well played, Huck. Posh's gradual transformation into a walking creamsicle has been pretty terrifying.

The Japanese horror film "Audition" has often been cited as one of the most nightmarish movies of all time. Since it's just been re-released on DVD, we've decided to give away some copies to our dear readers as Halloween gifts, and we want to hear from you about other movies that scare the bejeezus out of you.

31 Fates Worse Than Death! (#23: Audition)

I know what you're thinking. Yes, having a girl you're trying to date drug you, paralyze you, stick pins in you, and then slowly amputate your limbs using piano wire is a fate worse than death. And you're right, it certainly is, but it's not the fate of Aoyama, the lonely protagonist of Takashi Miike's classic film Audition that's the topic of today's Fate Worse Than Death. Sure, Aoyama is going to have a limp for the rest of his life, and he's probably going to have an even harder time getting back on the dating circuit, but his life is a cake walk compared to The Man in the Sack.

That's right, the Man in the Sack, the casually mentioned missing record producer from Asami's past who we learn is confined permanently to living in a burlap sack in Asami's apartment. And if being kidnapped and forced to live in a sack isn't already a fate worse than death, how about having both of your feet, three fingers, a tongue and an ear chopped off before being put in said bag?

Plus, what happens to the Man in the Sack at the end of Audition? Asami clearly can't take care of him anymore, which means that poor man is not only mutilated to hell and back and shoved into a burlap sack, but now he's been denied the only meal source he had: someone else's vomit.

Yep, I'd say slowly starving to death in a burlap sack because you can no longer eat your mistress' vomit is a Fate Worse Than Death.

This Week's Discs: Trick 'r Treat, The Thaw, Children of the Corn '09, and More

Best of the New Releases: Trick 'r Treat, The Children, The Thaw, Not Quite Hollywood
Okay, okay, you've had Trick 'r Treat bludgeoned into your conscious to no end lately. Well now is your chance to finally see Michael Dougherty's fabled film. I can't speak for what's on the DVD or Blu-ray, but the film itself is a wonderful tribute to all things Halloween. I saw it for the first time a week ago (review) and I'm already planning on popping in the Blu tonight.

This October's haul from Ghost House Underground isn't quite as large as the eight or so films they put out last year, but what they've lost in quantity they've made up for in quality (plus all four titles are available on Blu-ray). For starters we have The Children, a film I think can't be improved upon (review). Next up is The Thaw, a nice bit of eco-terror starring Val Kilmer and Aaron Ashmore about the discovery of a mammoth and the deadly parasites frozen inside it. Mark A. Lewis' film is basically a proposition of how to remake The Thing without remaking The Thing, but that's not entirely a bad thing considering how excellent the formula of frost-bound bio-horror is. I wouldn't call The Thaw a blind buy, but it's worth a look down the line.

Rock Band 2 patched on 360, PS3 update going through cert

Ludomusicians, rejoice! The Xbox 360 version of Rock Band 2 received a massive title update earlier today, adding a whole slew of oft-requested features to Harmonix's beefy music platform. The most notable of these additions is that the game now supports wireless microphones, such as those used with Lips. Other changes include improved hammer-ons and pull-offs, background downloading for music store purchases and the "Audition Mode," which allows Rock Band Network users to test out their homebrewed Rock Band tracks.

In a Rock Band forum thread, Harmonix's Sean Baptiste explained the PS3 version of the update is currently working its way through Sony's certification process. We've yet to hear mention of a Wii version of the patch. C'mon, Harmonix! Waggle-rockers need love too!

Is Danyl Johnson the next Susan Boyle?

Answer: probably.

This is video (can't embed it, unfortunately) of Danyl Johnson's first performance on The X Factor. Simon Cowell actually called it the best first audition he's ever heard in almost nine years of doing judging. Really? The guy is definitely good, but I think 58% of it is the audience reaction and the background vocals.

America's Got Talent: Audition show 10

(S04E10) "We've saved the best for last." - Nick about this being the last audition episode

The last America's Got Talent audition episode not only featured loads of good performances -- sadly, most shown in a quick montage -- but also an interview with Britain's Got Talent's Susan Boyle. The "Susan Boyle - Daring to Dream" interview with Meredith Vieira depicted well Susan's path to fame and her life struggles, but I would have preferred to have seen Boyle perform live on the show during one of the performance episodes in August. Then the contestants could have interacted with someone who went very far in the competition and be inspired by her story, as well as show that everyday people who truly have talent can become stars.

Before we get to my two cents about tonight's performances, I wanted to point out that contestant Shaunie, who performed a unique singing number in last night's episode, dropped by the comments section in my review of Audition show 9 to share the link to his YouTube channel so you can watch more of his talent.

A star is born on Real Housewives of New Jersey (maybe)

I'm not a parent, but aren't all kids "always performing for people?" That's what Teresa says about her 7 year-old daughter Gia in this clip from Real Housewives of New Jersey. She takes the kid to audition for a role in a movie starring The Rock. I guess the road to stardom these days starts on reality shows.

Tyra Banks Speaks Up About 'Top Model' Audition Stampede

Tyra Banks, creator, judge and executive producer of 'America's Next Top Model' has released a statement with producer Ken Mok about the stampede that broke out at the New York City casting call for the popular series. They said: "We are concerned by the events. We still don't know all the details of what triggered the incident," adding, "We appreciate the efforts of the NYPD and will assist them in any way possible in this matter."

Police are still investigating what caused the chaos outside of the Park Central Hotel. Two women and a man were arrested on disorderly conduct charges and the audition was shut down for not being organized properly, police said.

Llega 'Yatterman' de las manos de Takeshi Miike

Y otra adaptación de una serie de animación a una película de imagen real, aunque esta vez y para nuestra sorpresa no será una adaptación en Hollywood sino en Japón. Yatterman será el título de la cinta, y está basada en una serie de animación japonesa que se emitió desde 1977 al 1979. Y es que coincidiendo con la adaptación a la gran pantalla, desde el año pasado, la televisión nipona NTV y Yomiuri TV están emitiendo un "remake" de la serie de animación que es básicamente la misma historia con una serie de cambios adaptándola a los gustos de un público más moderno.

Volviendo a la cinta, Yatterman ha sido dirigida por nada menos que el director de culto Takashi Miike, autor de la estupenda Audition. No es la primera incursión del director en adaptaciones del mundo del anime, y de series casposas, como demuestra que se embarcara en la adaptación de Zebraman, un hombre de familia que trata de escapar de la vida cotidiana vistiéndose con un traje de cebra que se fabricó el mismo, y que al final resulta formar parte de una profecía, que incluye una invasión alienígena. Paula Abdul's Suicide Pact

To say Paula Abdul had a bad week would be an understatement.

Precautionary measures were taken while "American Idol" filmed at the Kodak Theater this week. All contestants, families and staff were strictly told not to mention anything about the suicide that occurred in front of Paula's home saying, "It would put Paula in a bad mood and not be good for camera."

TMZ sources close to the production say no one tested the new Paula rule and the tapings went without incident.

The rule is said to continue throughout the season. Calls to Paula Abdul's reps have yet to be returned.

Especial Halloween. Recomendaciones para todos los gustos

Vale sí, ya sé que Halloween es una celebración anglosajona que nos la tenía que traer al pairo a todos nosotros. Pero si algo que está claro en este país nuestro es que no necesitamos muchas excusas para organizar una buena juerga. Nos gusta más la calle y los bares que a un tonto un lápiz. Aquí basta con que algo se repita dos años seguidos para convertirse en tradición. Si un finde te da por quedar con los colegas del Insti para ir de cena sabes positivamente que esa idea corre grave peligro de convertirse en una cita anual obligatoria. Así que asumámoslo: Reyes Magos por encima de todo, pero Papá Noel... También.

¿Y qué mejor manera para un cinéfilo como tú que celebrar Halloween dándote un buen atracón de películas de miedo? Claro que como en Cinematical pensamos en todo tipo de espectadores, nos hemos currado una buena lista de recomendaciones para que podáis pasar un Halloween de los más típico, friki, infantil, romántico, monstruoso, asiático, independiente, fantasmal, musical y de otras muchas maneras. 41ª edición del festival de Sitges y Takashi Miike

Y otro festival más, en esta ocasión hablamos del de Sitges. El evento se celebrará del 2 al 12 de octubre en su 41ª edición. El festival se celebró por primera vez en 1967 y es considerado el mejor festival del mundo en cuanto al cine fantástico. La edición de este año contará con la presencia de Christiane Kubrick, viuda del inolvidable director de películas de culto como Alguien voló sobre el nido del cuco o El resplandor. Christiane se encargará de recoger el premio en su homenaje con ocasión del cuarenta aniversario de la obra maestra del director 2001: Una Odisea del Espacio.

Mythos lives!

These have been some turbulent times for both Mythos and Hellgate: London. Following the closing of Flagship Studios, recent news revealed Namco-Bandai Games as Hellgate: London's saviors, while the fate of Mythos remained uncertain, but grim. However just over a week later, the Hellgate: London page at Namco-Bandai has already disappeared.

In another turn of events, Gamasutra reports that Korea's T3 Entertainment, perhaps best-known for their online music game Audition, is seeking programmers for its new development studio in San Francisco: "T3 Entertainment is searching for creative minds to passionately continue development of Hellgate: London and Mythos, along with other new games, which are being published by HanbitSoft Inc." This may put to rest the dispute over IP which HanbitSoft was engaged in with Flagship Studios, as T3 Entertainment is HanbitSoft's largest stockholder. With any luck, the opening of a North American studio signifies a healthier future for both Mythos and Hellgate: London. We'll keep you posted, once more details become available.
