(RIMM) missed earnings on September 24, investors punished the Canadian smartphone giant by quickly selling shares off a whopping 17 percent.

While RIM management tried to paint a bright picture for future quarters, Wall Street surmised that sales growth at the red-hot maker of high-end handsets was flattening out. An equally important question now should be, does the RIM miss foreshadow a whiff by Apple (AAPL) due to slowing iPhone sales?

BlackBerry lovers, AT&T beckons. Looks like the just-reviewed Onyx is heading to AT&T and, as rumored before, so is the Magnum. We've got no pics of the latter device, but it's being touted here as the "BlackBerry Bold portfolio evolution" and uses the same processor as the Bold. It's also got a HVGA touchscreen, QWERTY pad, quad-band GSM / GRS / EDGE, GPS, and WiFi. Want more? How about an apparently non-flip Pearl 3G with 3.6 Mbps of HSDPA goodness, Bluetooth, 3.5mm headset jack, trackball, SureType, and aGPS. Rounding out this quartet is the Gemini, with a 512MHz processor, 256MB flash memory, 128MB RAM, Bluetooth, QVGA LCD, 2 megapixel sans flash, trackball, QWERTY keyboard, 3.5mm headset jack, a microSD slot, possibly GPS, and sadly, no 3G. There's no release date in sight, but hey, knowing they're on the way is half the battle, right?
While Research in Motion's line of BlackBerry smartphones has not generated the same level of hype as the iPhone, recent sales data indicates that the BlackBerry Curve outsold the iPhone in the last quarter, while the new BlackBerry Storm also challenges the iPhone's popularity.

The hype seems to say that the iPhone is the best phone out there. Why, two of the things, of course! Right now, at Verizon Wireless, you can walk in, buy one BlackBerry, and get a second one gratis. You might even get a few bucks back in the process.

The deal covers BlackBerry's hot touch-screen Storm, the Curve, the Pearl, the old-school 8830, and even a few non-BlackBerry phones, like the Palm Centro. You'll also get a $70 gift card after rebate on everything but the Storm, and with the Pearl you'll get $100 back! The buy one, get one (or BOGO) deal starts this week and runs through the end of March, so you have a bit of time to get shopping. But, make sure you read the fine print, as you'll need two separate two-year contracts, one for each handset. Lame. In a recent interview with Elevation Partners' Roger McNamee, the Palm investor explained that Palm knew it had to step up its game after RIM launched the BlackBerry Pearl, which he described as "the first real consumer electronics product in the smartphone category." The Pearl launch served as the coming out party for the BlackBerry brand among consumers as RIM began stepping up its advertising, and the product's narrower hardware design was a noticeable break with the staid stylings of previous BlackBerry devices.

Indeed, back in November of 2006 as Palm rolled out the somewhat consumer-focused Treo 680, I wrote a Switched On column noting that the Pearl broke with the evolutionary path that RIM had been on and served as an example for the kind of hardware shift Palm needed to make.

Palm finally answered the Pearl with the Centro, a compact, inexpensive, and successful smartphone that has apparently served as the final resting place of the original Palm OS architecture. However, between the release of those two devices, the entry and subsequent SDK of Apple's iPhone proved a far more significant turning point in the evolution of consumer smartphones. The iPhone's resonance and popularity have provoked responses from many competitors, but there is a particular contrast in the flagship CDMA touchscreen handsets released by RIM and Palm --- the other two smartphone developers that grow their own operating systems -- since then.

It's an exciting time for BlackBerry aficionados, thanks to the recent release of two new models that are radical departures from anything manufacturer RIM has ever offered before. The BlackBerry Storm, which incorporates the first BlackBerry touchscreen (heresy according to some fans who feel that a real QWERTY keyboard is the essence of BlackBerrys); and the BlackBerry Pearl Flip, which is RIM's first clamshell-style flip phone.

We can't tell you how many of our 'Berry-lovin' friends and colleagues have asked whether they should get the Flip or the Storm, so we made a little video outlining the pros and cons of each, which we hope will help make the decision easier.

One thing we forgot to mention: Unlike the Storm, the Flip has built-in Wi-Fi, which means you can get fast surfing speeds (and less expensive Internet calls) whenever you're in a Wi-Fi hotspot. Okay, amendment to our video is done. You can watch the video now.

Zapraszamy do obfitej galerii.

OtterBox has been producing cases for gadgets for quite some time, and I remember purchasing my first OtterBox case back in Europe almost 10 years ago. Their products are different from most cases you are used to, because they provide a level of protection that goes way beyond just keeping some minor scratches off your precious gadget.

The OtterBox lineup consists of several levels of protection, varying from basic scratch and bump protection, all the way up to full waterproof protection, with enough strength to survive a drop on a concrete floor. All OtterBox cases come with a no hassle lifetime warranty.

To help introduce you to their cases, I'll give you a closer look at three different styles of OtterBox case, each with a different level of protection. First up will be an OtterBox defender series case for the iPod Nano, second is an OtterBox Defender case for the Blackberry Curve, and finally I'll show you my 160GB iPod Classic underwater in the sink in an OtterBox Armor case.

OtterBox Defender series case for the 3rd generation iPod Nano

The OtterBox defender series cases are designed to protect your device from the kind of mishaps that happen when you carry your device. The case consists of three parts; 2 form the shell around the iPod, and the third is a rubber "jacket" that slips over the shell. The rubber protects the device, plus it guards the ports from letting any dust in.

Unlike most cases, the Defender case does not leave the scroll wheel unprotected; OtterBox has developed a patented "thin film membrane" to keep dirt and dust out, but still allow you full control of your player.

OtterBox Defender cases for the iPod are available for the 3rd generation Nano, the iPhone, the iPhone 3G, the iPod Touch and the iPod Classic. The cases cost $29.95 for the iPod, and $49.95 for the iPhone. OtterBox also make 2 iPod Defender cases in pink, to benefit the Avon breast cancer crusade.

The Blackberry Pearl's advanced phone features, text messaging and video recording (on some models) plus the Blackberry Curve's full QWERTY keyboard, laptop modem capability and built-in GPS make these smartphones perfect for business and pleasure.
We stopped by BlackBerry for a brief visit -- and to try and get the skinny on the 8xxx -- and low and behold the new 8130's were there for us to check out. The red set was branded Sprint, but the Powderpuff pink Pearl while the right color lacked Verizon branding. Either way, enjoy the pics of the new playful tones for your favorite RIM devices by following the gallery links below.

%Gallery-12917%

Wow it seems like new-color-for-BlackBerry-Pearl-8130 day over here at Engadget Mobile is in full swing. First we saw a Powderpuff Pink 8130 appear in Verizon's stable and now it seems the cat's out of the bag for Sprint's update. While this isn't listed on the site, apparently you can get at it now if you're arranging to pick up a new one. Enjoy the new choices friends.

The BlackBerry Pearl 8130 on Verizon is now pretty in pink, and while we know at least a couple readers are going to be stoked to see another color option, isn't the powderpuff pink option reserved for Paris Hilton and friends? Nothing much more to say here as the specs are identical to the 8130 we mentioned way back when, but just pinker. The handset is listed as "coming soon" on Verizon's Next site, but we'll be sure to post up the details on release when we see 'em.

[Via PhoneMag]
